    I am interested in the Fae and there are not a lot of films about them that realistically reflect the lore, i.e.powerful, clearly having their own agenda, not here for our benefit, and sometimes sneaky and not very nice at all (in other words, not Tinkerbell). It is an incredibly niche subject and is usually only heard about in RUclips videos of octogenarian Irish folk telling experiential tales from their youth. I didn't see the film for thrills particularly, but rather to see what the subject taken on in a more mainstream fashion would be like. I was curious, and I found it interesting. I didn't mind the exposition for that reason. I agree that every character was a bit, or maybe more than a bit, of an arse, and some were not developed at all. However, it was fine. Not perfect but I didn't consider it a waste of £12.

      YOU'RE WRONG lol I'm just kiddin, that makes total sense, I can def see how approaching it from that lens would make it better. I just wish that the director chose a lane and stuck to it: either 1) make it a true folk horror, emphasis on the characters/thrills/scares, OR 2) approach it more like "Pans Labyrinth" where the folk mythology and surrounding societal conflicts were at the forefront of the narrative and the thrills/horror were just a byproduct of these elements. Glad you got something out of it tho, and I hope this sub-genre gets some more attention following this film, I'd love to see A24 or NEON take on a film revolving around the Fae. Thanks for the comment!

    The Book was pretty mid to bad writing so Im not surprised the movie isnt good lmao. Sounds like the movie was pretty faithful to the book; I more blame the people that read the book and were like yeah lets make a movie. Good video!

      I was wondering this...whereas something like 3 Body Problem is supposedly a pretty incredible book (and I figured as much from the TV show b/c of the dense sci-fi going on, even tho I thought it was a mediocre 1st season)...it seemed like the source material for The Watchers was pretty mediocre out of the gate, glad to hear that my suspicions were correct lol Thanks for the kind words and the comment!

      @@AdamGee8 I totally agree, those 2 movies were mediocre at best imo ("Knock at the Cabin" was actually my most disappointing film of 2023 lol). I'm not willing to give up on the Sham-Hammer just yet ("Split" was just such a great return to form for him imo)...but I'm about 1-2 more flops away from crossing that threshold lol Here's hoping that "Trap" is a step up from his 2 most recent films 🤞🤞🤞

    The final villian wasn't his goal, which is why when he begged for mercy, Bobby (Dev Patel) hesitated slightly. But the reason he needed to be confronted and eliminated was for the greater good. From being an antihero for the quest of revenge to changing his quest for a bigger picture was the evolution that got sparked with his conversation... To drawing parallels with Hanuman who had forgotten his powers over time. He basically had it all in him from years of being beaten in the ring. He was only held back by his trauma. The training montage shown him shifting his drive thus removing most of his shackles. He already has been fighting all his life, he had everything he needed since before just that he didn't know of it. Hence the reliance on a gun initially.

      Well dang...that's good stuff right there haha! I gotta kick this around a bit longer, but my initial reaction is that this seems spot-on and extremely well thought out and that I just probably have some catching up to do to get where you are lol. One clarification question I have...so you're saying that it's implied that he already acquired all these fighting skills over the time period in which he was just getting his head stoved in...and it's his time at this temple + the training that occurred during the training montage...that unleashed these previously acquired skills? I honestly dig that completely, just wanted to clarify that that is what you're saying haha thanks for the comment and cheers!

    To sum it up the President became a type of dictator. He was serving a third term as president and dismantled the FBI but that's all we get in terms of why the country may have fell into war. But overall we get a story about a group of reporters who have been following the war and as the war nears its end they set off to try interview the president. At least that is what I interpreted the movie to be about.

    Lame. Blue states would be completely screwed. Best part is Texas and California teamed up. Comedic greatness right there. California. Lmao.

    • @TakeItorLeaveItReviews
      @TakeItorLeaveItReviews 2 месяца назад

      Thanks for the comment! Gotta disagree with you on that one tho...There's plenty of reasons why TX/CA would become allies, one of which could simply be "the enemy of MY enemy (federal govt.) is my friend"...but don't take my word for it...this author dives into more detailed reasons why they specifically might choose to separate & align: "In his 2022 nonfiction book The Next Civil War: Dispatches from the American Future, Stephen Marche foresees a splintering into four countries: North, South, Texas, and California. “Unlike many other regions searching for independence, California and Texas could work as independent countries,” he writes, citing the global-top-10 GDPs each of the two new nations would boast. Scotland or Quebec, Marche argues, would still be somewhat dependent on outside forces if they excised themselves from the U.K. and Canada, respectively, but “Texas and California share none of those vulnerabilities. California and Texas are the new economy. Both states are donor states: They give more in federal taxes than they receive. Military infrastructure wouldn’t be a problem, either. California hosts the most active-duty personnel, followed closely by Texas.”" So yeah, political pearl clutching in the face of Occam’s razor is what actually doesn’t make sense...it's completely believable that this alliance COULD occur depending on FUTURE circumstances, *but I sure would have liked more backstory/context to explain why this happened in the film* . Thanks again my man!

    I work in a hospital in the surgery dept so the beginning of the film caught my eye. They really got the hospital environment right. But then I snapped out of it and found the whole plot very unrealistic. Did the writer not do research? When the human body has been “ dead” for a short amount of time it is unviable. Say it is brought back to life, the brain is permanently damaged. The heart , especially the kidneys will not work. The film took itself too seriously unlike a fun, raunchy movie like Re-Animator.

    • @TakeItorLeaveItReviews
      @TakeItorLeaveItReviews 6 месяцев назад

      Agreed! That was truly terrifying b/c there's just nothing that can really be done (at least immediately) to defend against that, I'd imagine that things would feel pretty hopeless when that just randomly switches on and off, talk about not feeling in control of yourself and your environment lol. And I love that they drop some theories about "the noise" via Kevin Bacon's character, but otherwise it's left pretty vague/unknown for us as the audience, which helps to sink us even deeper into the characters' shoes (that's right around when I started really sympathizing with them haha). Hey there! I agree, I really got the sense that the filmmakers were marching to the beat of their own drum, and it was the audience's job to keep up with them, there wasn't any pandering going on to say the least, they were committed to telling their story the way they wanted to tell it, which I def appreciate/respect haha. And the last few minutes was a pretty unexpected and gnarly/dark/twisted way to end the film haha. Thanks for the comment!

      I get where you're coming from, there were def flaws/weaknesses with the film (like you said, the main character making dumb decisions, I needed something to explain why he was being such a stubborn idiot, it was driving me up a wall lol). Overall I think it came together well enough, but the flaws def stand out which is frustrating. Hopefully this filmmaker learns from the experience and makes some adjustments on his next project (which I hope is horror again haha). Thanks for the comment!

    • @TakeItorLeaveItReviews
      @TakeItorLeaveItReviews 8 месяцев назад

      Hey there! Look...I don't blame you at all, this film is ROUGH lol and if the movie wasn't brutal enough, the ending is arguably the hardest part to swallow, I couldn't agree with you more haha. As I mentioned in my review, it would have been a big problem for me from a critical standpoint, except that I had a perspective of the film that made the brutality and the ending substantive rather than just empty calories (not that the film having meaning and substance behind the brutality makes the film any easier to swallow haha). And my perspective on the film and some of the weightier themes I thought it was discussing, was confirmed by the director of the film @samcurtain who has commented above or below your comment haha! So yeah, it's nice getting some confirmation that there's more to the film than just empty calorie brutality, but again...that doesn't make it any easier to watch, and I don't blame you for a SECOND for not watching it again because it's such a rough watch (and I don't think Sam would blame you either, I think he intentionally made this thing a real bruiser on purpose)...but the film has stuck with me and is very memorable and thought-provoking (for me, at least), so that's a lot more than I can say for many films haha! What is your favorite type of horror movie/genre if you had your pick? And thanks so much again for the comment!

      @TakeItorLeaveItReviews 9 месяцев назад

      Thanks for the kind words! If you love horror, then you've come to the right place my friend, b/c that's my favorite genre and I talk about it the most on my channel. Particularly independent horror films, but also indie sci-fi, thriller, mystery, and tense dramas (you know, dark sh!t mostly haha!). But yeah, Deadstream snuck up on me, I love a good found footage movie but can't stand the bad ones (which is the majority of them lol) and Deadstream surprised the hell outta me. I don't wanna oversell it, but if you are OK with found footage, I think it'll def be worth your time. Let me know what you think when you finish it and thanks again for the comment!

    Rock on brother 🤘 Thanks for taking the time to review our film, you’ve got our group chat buzzin! Spot on with the interpretation of PTSD, poverty and the effects on the family, but obviously dialled up to 1000. Like many French New Extreme flick the film asks the question “is survival worth the ordeal”? Which in Jacks case, probably not!

    • @TakeItorLeaveItReviews
      @TakeItorLeaveItReviews 9 месяцев назад

      Wow what an honor!!! Thanks so much for the kind words and for confirming some of the themes/topics that the film explores. And yeah, I'm betting Jack's answer was almost certainly "NO!" haha, however I found it interesting that he struggled to bring himself to take his own life, so that battle between subconscious survival instinct vs. conscious desire was fascinating. I also found myself frustrated thinking "BUT WAIT!...THE END ISN'T FAIR!!!", but over the past several days, I started thinking "Yeah, maybe not...but isn't that life?" and it's been interesting going through that mental/emotional paradoxical tug-of-war where both sides of the equal sign weren't equal, and yet the equation was still true (if that makes sense haha). As you can see, the fact that I'm still affected by and thinking about your film almost a week later is a testament to the significant film that you all made, so congratulations to all of you (especially those in Sam's group chat haha)!! I'll definitely be following you guys from here on out, and I can't wait to see what you'll be working on next! Thanks again for reaching out, it means a ton!

Not that Queen Mary doesn't have some flaws, but I think they are heavily outweighed by the strengths of the film, I think this is an underrepresented film that hopefully gets some more attention (especially with Halloween coming up). Thanks man! I adore this movie and Take Shelter, Jeff Nichols is such a talented director, I can't wait to see what he's able to do with the Quiet Place universe in "A Quiet Place: Day One" (which is in post-production, so we don't have to wait much longer!). Thanks for the comment!

      Hell yeah man! That's amazing to hear, that's exactly what I'm aiming for, throwing films on folk's radar that they wouldn't otherwise know about. And yeah, I wish Quicksand was one of those...but it just ain't hahaha. Were there any movie recommendations that struck you as particularly interesting?! Also, I saw "Talk to Me" last night and I'm working on my review for that as I type this haha...spoiler alert...I'm a big fan of it, so check it out this weekend if you get a chance! And seriously, thank you for the kind words, they legit made my day!

      @@TakeItorLeaveItReviews There are so many I want to check out! I haven't seen Talk To Me yet but hopefully next week. I really appreciate how at the end of your reviews that you mention similar themed movies, it really helps form my decision on whether I'm going to enjoy a movie or not, and it's not something I've seen on other movie review channels and I watch a lot of them!

    I honestly thought this was some rom-comy dark nonsense, but considering Secretary was one of my favorite films back in the day...... this might be a must see. THANK YOU.

      Def elements of Secretary in this, so I'd recommend rolling the dice on Sanctuary haha let me know what you think if you check it out!

    I totally saw this. For me, it harkened back to the 90s British crime thrillers I miss. Like Guy Ritchie..... but actually about important stuff

    Seeing the actress that plays the mother in 'vikings' in THIS? I am impressed. I wonder if she's a dancer?

    THANK YOU for uploading this! I feel like the majority of people out there just aren't open (and patient) enough for this movie and expect to have "their usual horror/action movie formula". "The Outwaters" to me is a whole V I B E and the way it plays with the fear of the unknown is just amazing! There were parts where I even compared it to Silent Hill's and P.T.'s approach to horror. Honestly I agree on pretty much everything you're saying in this video. Loved the authenticity of the characters (who I rly liked), loved the otherworldly sound design creating uneasiness, loved the cinematography and what-to-reveal-when choices of its director Robbie. Became a fan of this overnight. 😃

      I hear ya completely! This film hit me like a ton of bricks, I was floored after the first time I saw it. A lot of times I hear people say that it's all about "story and characters" when it comes to film, and much of the time this is true...but The Outwaters proves that there's so much more that can be explored. This is an experiential, experimental, punk rock arthouse film that's so much more interested in using the story, characters, and film language to make us FEEL a certain way (not dissimilar from how David Lynch tends to approach his films). It's much more about driving us as the viewer to a particular place via that "V I B E" you're talking about, rather than just telling a story, at least that's kinda how I see it haha. And the sound design for this thing...utterly unreal lol PERFECT for this "sensory deprivation" horror genre. I think Robbie is a director to keep our eye on as he seems very interested in pushing the envelope and breaking new ground (based on this film plus the interviews I've seen). And I love the comparison to Silent Hill! Are you excited about the new Silent Hill movie that the original director is working on?! Thanks for your thoughts!

    succinctly put! excellent rundown of the movie's basic themes. irl, motherhood is.... a fraught topic for me, but when its in horror media, it's just so ✨juicy✨ definitely putting huesera on my list!

      Thanks so much! One of my biggest motivators for this channel is putting smaller/lesser-known films on people's radar that they'd otherwise probably give a shot and enjoy...if only they were aware that these smaller films existed haha. So I plan to continue creating these short/concise recommendation videos as they're MUCH faster to produce (and my goal is to be able to see an indie film and post a recommendation video within 24 hours of watching it, which is possible with this new format/approach). And your comment definitely motivates me to continue pursuing this kind of content in addition to reviews, so the feedback is much appreciated! Regarding The Bone Woman and motherhood as a theme in horror films...I couldn't agree more, it's a VERY rich subject matter that's perfect for horror, and it's also deeply personal for every individual, so each new take on motherhood still ends up being a very unique/compelling perspective that's worth revisiting (hell, David Lynch's "Eraserhead" was inspired by him becoming a new father, and 45+ years later you STILL have films about motherhood/fatherhood coming out like The Bone Woman that are COMPLETELY different/unique from Eraserhead haha). Definitely give The Bone Woman a shot and please let me know what you think of it, thanks again for the comment!

    This really is an odd movie…I love what it is, I like the movie, but I’m not sure if I enjoyed it or not. Either way, it was effective at conveying a bleak situation…very anxiety inducing. I think on balance I really liked the movie, but most people I know would not. Thanks for the review…very well done!

    Great review! I saw the film opening weekend, Friday the 13th, at the Regal Theaters in Colonie NY. It was amazing to see a micro budget film like this on the big screen. I didn't find the film scary but was impressed with the films success with fans. This reminds me of the analog horror films I've been watching on RUclips for the last 2 years, which have started to filter into my own two feature films. ruclips.net/video/k2qhkR06XHY/видео.html
